U – Uranium
The Zero Valent Iron (ZVI) is adept at removing soluble radionuclides such as Uranium(U) from water sources via the redox reaction.  A series of reduction reactions by elemental iron convert a dissolved uranium to an insoluble state which is immobile and remains in the ZVI medium. The use of ZVI for removing uranium from water does not have an effect on its radioactive characteristics however.
